“Open the soul to see this great world.”- An Interview With Artist Andreia Martinescu

Andreia Martinescu is a multidisciplinary professional artist (visual artist, set and costume designer, illustrator, artistic producer) with over 20 years experience in creating small and large artistic projects. The artist has artworks in private collections in Romania as well as Italy, Great Britain, USA, Mexico, Japan, Spain, France. Find out more here.

Can you tell us something about your background?

Since I know myself, I have felt the need to create various visual artworks, even though I didn’t know that this phenomenon is called “art.” The first art project I have done at almost 10 years old and consisted of drawing and painting several teaching materials designed to help children in school. At 12 years I painted my first painting with oil paint on canvas, the static nature: a flower pot. Then, I realized how much joyful I am to have those feelings when I paint.

How have you developed your career?

I have always worked in the field of arts and culture, in parallel on two different lines, but which support each other: production and visual art. I did production for television, film, theater, opera, artistic production for events, and in parallel, I have always been a visual artist (painter, stage designer, illustrator). In recent years I have begun to support art workshops for children and art therapy workshops for adults, especially for those who are novices in the field of visual arts.

What does your work aim to say?

The works I have created tell about our inner realities, about our acceptance of all as we are, about emotions, feelings, experiences, dreams. The parents are saying: “open your eyes to see where you are going so don’t hurt yourself,” I say: “open the soul to see this great world.”

Comfort keeps our prisoners in obsolete norms that say pretty much about stories in the material world. Through my work, I give people another vision of a new world (already existing !!) for a new man. The angels who are painted by me speak to you about gratefulness, kindness, love, bestowal, they remind you to feel.

Who are your biggest influences? What or who inspires in your career?

The greatest influences are the cosmic energy, family and society. The last one, with her negative role, tries to make a living, singular organism, to draw me in uniform, and the family has the opposes role and keep my eyes opens to infinity.

Which current art world trends are you following?

The tendencies that I am pursuing are the soul and mental needs of men. These needs have an echo including in the choices of their artistic searches and manifestations.

What role does the artist have in society?

In any society, the artist is the messenger. He is the one who receives the information and is endowed with certain gifts, he has the duty to materialize the message. The artist, depending on his choices and the qualities (and eventually educated), can put himself into the service of society through several “techniques”: painting, sculpture, architecture, music, dancing, etc.

What’s your artwork?

It is a difficult fact to have to restrict to a few options all those works of art that impress me and which impress my choices…Works that narrate emotional stories that open your eyes to the unknown world. However, Van Gogh manages to remain for me the main source different from all others, with a joyful sense of joy.

How would you describe your practice?

Meditating, saying a prayer, releasing thoughts, lost dreams or ruthless “must,” is part of my way of working. The angels made their way into my life as an artist some years ago during the Christmas season. Great gift!

The works are unique and are created with various materials … from canvas to ceramics, wood or glass.

At the beginning of a picture, I do not make plans. I want to “let it appear” and get “seen”! It’s not always easy.

These works are special for special people who feel to be surrounded by Angels also in the material dimension.

What themes do you pursue?

In the past few years, I have been fascinated by the painted stories about “how many in the moon and how many in the stars”, dreams, universe, hopes, adulthood, love, couple, life, birth, all under the sign of the divine that unifies all of us.

What is your dream project?

My dream project is the one I’m already involved with. It is a great project, but it is composed of many small projects. As Neil Armstrong said: “A small step for a man, a giant step for mankind.” Both through paintings and through all the workshops I do, I give to people open gates to be their starting poles for multiple awareness of life and so everything to receive sense, value, beauty, blessing, well-being, love…
